What are the best employee handbook services for restaurants?
Restaurants can build a handbook with software such as the SHRM Employee Handbook Builder, Mineral, Blissbook, Paychex or Homebase, have a hospitality HR firm such as Empowered Hospitality or Humareso write one, or use a service such as BOHO to draft it and keep it updated. Every option needs restaurant policies added and state-specific policies reviewed by counsel.

A restaurant handbook needs policies most generic templates leave out: tip pooling, service charges, shift meals, minors' hours and working in more than one role. You can build one yourself with software, have a consultant write it, or have a service keep it current.
This list covers all three. Whichever you choose, have state-specific policies reviewed by an employment lawyer before you rely on them.

Write, generate, or maintain
Builders are cheapest if you have time to answer questions and add restaurant policies yourself. Consultants write it for you. Either way, a handbook starts going stale the day it is finished, so plan for who will update it and collect new signatures.
